Students of Dhanmondi Ideal College staged a protest on Sunday, blocking the Science Laboratory intersection, demanding justice and punishment for those responsible for a fellow student’s death in a road accident.
The protest, which began around 1:30pm, brought traffic to a halt in the area and resulted in severe gridlock.
According to police sources, about a month ago, a student of Ideal College named Arshad was killed after being hit by a truck in the Banglamotor area.
Although the truck driver was initially arrested, he was later released on bail. This triggered outrage among students, who took to the streets demanding the driver’s re-arrest and exemplary punishment.
Dhanmondi police station Inspector Mosharraf Hossain said the students were removed from the road around 2:15pm, after which vehicular movement resumed as normal.
