Sacrificial slaughter continued across various parts of the capital on Sunday, the second day of Eid-ul-Azha.
Many residents began preparing for the sacrifice right after the Fajr prayer, reports Bangla Tribune.
Some were unable to find a butcher on Eid day, while others waited for relatives to arrive and chose to perform the sacrifice on Sunday.
Mridul Ahmed, a resident of Mirpur 11, said: “I couldn’t find a butcher on Eid day—they were asking for too much money. So, I waited until the second day.”
Siraj Tarek, a resident of Mirpur Pallabi, said: “Everyone in our family is involved in business. Even on Eid day, my brothers were busy with work, so we couldn’t all gather. Today (Sunday), we are sacrificing together as a family. It’s more joyful when everyone is present.”
Meanwhile, both city corporations of Dhaka reported that all sacrificial waste from Eid day was cleared by night.
Sanitation workers will continue the waste removal operation on Sunday and through Monday, allowing residents to perform sacrifices at their convenience.
Many citizens expressed satisfaction with the waste management efforts.
Tanvir Hossain, a resident of Mirpur 10, said: “In recent years, the city corporation has been quite active in managing sacrificial waste. People are now more aware too. They leave the waste in designated places using the polythene bags provided by the city corporation. People no longer dump waste indiscriminately.”
