Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has initiated a training program for imams and meat processors ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha to ensure the quality of sacrificial animal hides and meat, while adhering to religious and health guidelines during the sacrificial process.
Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, head of DNCC’s Health Department, said on Monday that cattle hides are a significant export commodity for Bangladesh.
However, due to improper methods of skinning, the quality of hides is compromised every year, he added.
To address this issue, under the direction of the DNCC administrator, training sessions have been organized across 10 zones, Imrul said, adding that these sessions will teach modern skinning techniques to relevant personnel, thereby enhancing the export quality of hides.
Under the supervision of DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz, a 14-member medical team will be deployed at each sacrificial animal market this year.
These teams will oversee the health inspection of sacrificial animals and ensure compliance with health protocols.
Additionally, special measures have been taken for the management of sacrificial waste.
DNCC is encouraging local residents to perform sacrifices at designated areas within their neighborhoods. Conducting sacrifices in these specified locations will facilitate the prompt and proper disposal of waste.
