All preparations have been completed for the celebration of Pohela Boishakh at Ramna Batamul.
The final rehearsal on the main stage began at 3:30pm on Sunday, where around 150 performers participated in the rehearsal, said Aminul Kaiser Dipu, a member of Chhayanaut’s New Year celebration preparation committee.
The main performance will begin at 6:15am on Monday, featuring nearly 150 male and female performers, he added.
The program will include Boishakhi songs and poetry recitations. Among the 24 total performances, there will be 9 group songs, 12 solo songs, and 3 poetry recitations.
This year’s New Year address will be delivered by Sarwar Ali, executive president of Chhayanaut.
Aminul Kaiser said that this year’s stage has been designed in a semicircular shape measuring 72 feet in length and 30 feet in width.
He mentioned that rehearsals had been ongoing at the Chhayanaut building in Dhanmondi for the past three months.
During an on-site visit on Sunday afternoon, it was observed that the stage, constructed on an iron pipe framework, included separate seating and microphones for each performer.
Senior performers were guiding the sitting postures of the artists. Sound and vocals were being synchronized with the sound system and other musical instruments at the front.
The organizers said that specific attire was not mandatory during rehearsals. However, for the main performance, male participants will wear maroon panjabis and white pajamas, while female participants will wear off-white sarees with maroon borders.
To match the saree’s design, maroon elements have also been incorporated into the stage design — a shift from last year’s green color theme, said the organizers.
This year’s central message for the Bengali New Year is "Amar Mukti Aloy Aloy" — “My liberation lies in light.”
The performances will celebrate light, nature, people, and patriotic songs.
