A symbolic portrait of fascism, created by the Faculty of Fine Arts (Charukola) at the University of Dhaka (DU) for the Pahela Baishakh Ananda Shobhajatra (festive procession), has been reported to have 'burned down'.
Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, the university's Proctor, confirmed to Bangla Tribune that the incident occurred early Saturday morning. However, it is still unclear how the fire started.
The Proctor said that along with the portrait of fascism, a dove figure was also burned.
“We have yet to identify who started the fire. Efforts are underway to check CCTV footage,” he added.
Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Professor Azharul Islam, said: “We need some time to find out who was responsible. We will sit with a committee to investigate. Attempts are being made to retrieve CCTV footage, and everything should be clear very soon.”
