Leaders of the Sada Dal, BNP-affiliated DU teachers' organization, have stated that protests alone are not enough to stop the genocide in Gaza, calling for armed resistance and claiming that Israel's genocide is supported by international powers and profit-driven politics.
At a human chain event that began on Thursday morning, Dr Md Morshed Hasan Khan, convener of the Sada Dal, said: "We stand with Palestine and will continue to do so. If necessary, we will be there as fighters. We are ready to enlist our names there."
Describing Israel's genocide as silently supported by international powers and profit politics, Dr Md Morshed Hasan Khan said that for the past eight years, Israel has been oppressing and persecuting the people of Palestine, and they will continue to do this.
"We must respond with armed resistance against this. Otherwise, such injustice and oppression would not be happening. All countries of the world must stand united to confront Israel."
Former acting vice-vhancellor of DU, AFM Yusuf Haider, said that, in October 2023, they (Israel) thought they would destroy Palestine, but by Allah's grace, they have not yet achieved this goal due to the resistance from Hamas and Hezbollah.
"We must respond to them in the language they understand. Israel wants to commit genocide. If just the OPEC countries stopped supplying oil, this war would come to an end," he added.
Professor Dr Abdus Salam, dean of the Faculty of Science and joint convener of the Sada Dal, said all human rights in Gaza are being violated. "We must protest against this. I demand: Stop Genocide. End the war and mass killings."
Additionally, he condemned the destruction of business establishments in Bangladesh during the protests.
Professor Dr Muhammad Ekramul Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Law, said that, if law truly existed in the world, Israel could not carry out this genocide. Israel is violating the Geneva Convention's laws and policies of war. The rules regarding children, women, and general warfare are being violated constantly.
"The United Nations should prove that 'law exists' because if there were actually laws, it would be impossible for Israel to carry out this genocide."
University Treasurer Professor M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that, he came here as a teacher, not as part of the Dhaka University administration. "Although we can't do much, we strongly condemn this. No matter what Israel does, they cannot do anything to the Palestinian nation; they will remain awake and survive."
"We must sever relations with institutions that do business with Israel. We call upon all countries and the United Nations to stop this brutality," he added.
Professor Dr Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, dean of the Faculty of Arts, said that the teachers of Dhaka University stand here driven by their conscience. "We strongly condemn the brutal genocide carried out by Israel, the boil of the Middle East, with US support. We want to tell Israel that this genocide must be stopped immediately, and countries providing support must stop their cooperation."
He added: "The UN and OIC must step forward. During the previous fascist regime, we saw phone tapping devices imported from Israel, and they removed 'Except Israel' from our passports. We do not want any written or unwritten relationship between Bangladesh and Israel."
Others who spoke included Dhaka University's Shamsun Nahar Hall Provost Dr Nasrin Sultana, Professor Dr Md Akhter Hossain Khan of the Department of Soil and Environmental Science, and Abdullah Al Mamun, convener of the Provost Standing Committee, who was present in solidarity. Teachers from various departments and faculties were also present.
