Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said on Tuesday that the main objective of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus’s visit to China is to attract Chinese investors to Bangladesh.
Shafiqul made the comment at a seminar titled “LDC Graduation: Impact on the Agricultural Sector and Export Diversification,” held at the Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF) office in Paltan, Dhaka, reports Bangla Tribune.
The seminar was jointly organized by ERF and the Bangladesh Agrochemical Manufacturers Association (Bama).
The press secretary said: “The chief adviser is travelling to China with a primary focus on attracting Chinese investors who hold significant influence in the global market.”
He said that the chief adviser will not only hold meetings at the state level but will also engage in special discussions with Chinese private sector investors.
He said: “Bangladesh is now ready for business. The key message will be to encourage Chinese entrepreneurs to establish factories in the country.”
“Prof Yunus aims to transform Bangladesh into a manufacturing hub. He is working to increase employment opportunities. However, some obstacles remain, and plans are being developed to overcome them,” he added.
Shafiqul said: “The government wants to reduce dependence on the garment industry and expand exports in other sectors. To achieve this, initiatives are being taken to establish a manufacturing hub for halal meat and other halal products.”
Highlighting the need for improving Chittagong Port’s efficiency, he mentioned that regular monitoring is being conducted. “Increasing the port’s capacity is a top priority. Daily monitoring ensures smoother trade operations.”
The press secretary said: “There is intense global trade competition. Bangladesh is working to take advantage of this. The interim government is laying the foundation that will elevate Bangladesh’s economy to new heights.”
At the event, ERF President Doulot Akter Mala delivered the welcome speech and presided over the seminar, while the organization’s General Secretary Abul Kashem moderated the session.
The keynote presentation was delivered by KSM Mostafizur Rahman, president of the Bangladesh Agrochemical Manufacturers Association (Bama).
