The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has urged people not to create public inconvenience by blocking roads during the holy month of Ramadan.

The appeal was made in a press release sent out by the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division on Sunday.

The DMP said that Ramadan is currently underway, and the Muslim community’s largest religious festival, Eid ul-Fitr, is approaching.

"Alongside preparations for the festival, economic activities in the country increase significantly during this time. After completing work during the changed office hours, devout Muslims rush home to join their families for iftar," it added.

"Naturally, there is heavy traffic on the city’s roads during Ramadan. The traffic police face numerous challenges in managing the increased number of vehicles within a short period."

It added that, recently, certain self-interested groups have been blocking roads and streets on various pretexts, causing difficulties in the lives of city dwellers.

In this regard, the DMP said it is requesting all concerned parties to avoid blocking roads unnecessarily during the remaining days of Ramadan in the interest of public convenience.
