DNA samples from three accused in a case filed over the rape of an eight-year-old girl in Magura were collected on Tuesday night for testing.

The samples were sent to the Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) DNA profiling laboratory in Dhaka for analysis, said Additional Superintendent of Police Md Mirajul Islam.

Following the incident, the survivor's mother filed a case on Saturday, leading to the arrest of all the accused.

The girl is currently on life support at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.

The incident took place when the girl visited her sister’s in-laws’ house in Nijnanduali village of Magura Sadar upazila.

She went to bed with her sister at night. Later in the night, her sister discovered her absence and immediately began searching for her.

After a frantic search, the girl was found unconscious a few yards away from the house.

She was initially admitted to Magura General Hospital but was later transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital as her condition deteriorated.

On Thursday, she was moved to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) before being shifted to CMH.

Meanwhile, university students, including those from Dhaka University, staged demonstrations early on Sunday on their respective campuses, demanding the death penalty for the accused.

Home Affairs Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury visited the girl at CMH on Sunday and said the rapists will not be spared, as the state is determined to ensure justice.
