The Center for Governance Studies (CGS) organized a fact-checking workshop on Monday, at the Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in Dhaka.

CGS is conducting such workshops across all eight divisions of Bangladesh, reinforcing its commitment to responsible journalism and combating misinformation. Journalists from 20 leading national media houses participated in the workshop.

In his speech at the event, CGS Executive Director Zillur Rahman said: “The necessity of fact-checking is now greater than ever, both in Bangladesh and globally. Rapidly spreading misinformation poses a threat to democratic discourse, social stability, and public trust. Acknowledging this challenge, CGS is working tirelessly to equip journalists with the necessary skills to combat misinformation. Through these fact-checking workshops across different regions, CGS aims to foster a more responsible media landscape.”

The workshop was conducted by AFP Bangladesh’s Fact-Checking Editor, Qadaruddin Shishir. He introduced participants to modern fact-checking tools and techniques, covering digital verification, misinformation detection on social media, and investigative strategies. He also thanked CGS for initiating fact-checking training programs for journalists nationwide.

Journalists from 20 leading media organizations found the workshop timely and valuable. A senior journalist who attended the event remarked, “This training has enhanced our fact-checking skills, which is crucial in today’s fast-paced news environment.”

A female journalist added, “Fact-checking skills are essential for journalism. This workshop will help us detect misinformation and report with greater confidence.”

During the workshop, journalists were introduced to CGS’s misinformation tracking platform, Fact-Checking Hub (www.factcheckinghub.com).

This platform will provide updated insights into the fact-checking landscape in Bangladesh, aggregating data from various established fact-checking organizations to serve as a centralized information hub. Participants recognized the platform as an effective and useful tool for verifying information.
