Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter has warned that strict action will be taken against those responsible for unjust price hikes during Ramadan, emphasizing that such practices will no longer be tolerated.
She made this comment while speaking at the "Inauguration of the Sale of Milk, Eggs, and Meat at Affordable Prices in Ramadan" program, held at the Siraj Mia Memorial Model School premises in the capital's Merul Badda on Friday.
The adviser also called on the students who protested during the July uprising to join the fight against unjust price hikes.
She emphasized that this Ramadan would be celebrated differently, and the responsibility to ease the public's struggles is greater than ever.
“As an interim government, we aim to reduce the problems faced by the public, especially the rising prices," she said.
While acknowledging that prices have not been fully controlled, she assured that efforts are being made to sell essential products at lower prices during Ramadan.
From the 1st to the 28th of Ramadan, essential products will be sold at affordable prices at 25 locations across Dhaka, including areas that were active during the July protests and slum areas.
At the inauguration, it was announced that dressed broiler meat would be sold at Tk250 per kg, pasteurized milk at Tk80 per litre, eggs at Tk114 per dozen, and beef at Tk650 per kg.
The initiative is supported by the Department of Livestock and Dairy Development Project, the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council, and other stakeholders, including dairy companies and local farmers.
