The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has called on the public to support its Ramadan fundraising campaign aimed at assisting families struggling with food insecurity across Bangladesh.
As the holy month of Ramadan continues, WFP is inviting individuals to contribute to its humanitarian efforts to help vulnerable communities meet their food and nutrition needs.
Members of the public can donate directly to WFP through its official bKash account (01322846197, account name: World Food Program) via the Donation section of the mobile app. Contributions can also be made online through the dedicated portal: https://donation.bkash.com/en/wfp/donate.
The campaign has received support from prominent figures, including chef and writer Kishwar Chowdhury, who gained international recognition following her appearance on MasterChef Australia Season 13 in 2021.
“This Ramadan, I stand with WFP in their lifesaving and life-changing work for Bangladeshi communities affected by hunger and at high risk of climate shocks,” Kishwar said. “Every contribution will support WFP’s work across the country, with a focus on women and children facing food and nutrition insecurity.”
Food insecurity remains a major concern in Bangladesh. According to the 2025 Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) analysis, about 16 million people in the country are facing severe food insecurity. Many are at risk of slipping into emergency levels without sustained humanitarian assistance.
Severe food insecurity means that families often skip meals, rely on less nutritious food, or go entire days without eating due to a lack of access to adequate food.
The findings highlight the urgent need for continued support to protect lives and livelihoods, particularly as climate shocks and economic pressures continue to affect vulnerable communities.
“In the spirit of Ramadan, we invite everyone to extend generosity to families struggling to meet their basic food and nutrition needs,” said Simone Parchment, country director ai of WFP Bangladesh.
“Every taka given will help families weather emergencies and move toward food security and resilience. We thank Kishwar and other public figures who have joined this effort and call on more friends and partners to stand with us. Together, let’s build a hunger-free and prosperous Bangladesh,” she added.
