To ease traffic congestion during Ramadan, students will assist traffic police in managing the roads, while rickshaws will be banned from major roads after Eid-ul-Fitr, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Ejaz has said.
He made the announcement on Sunday during an exchange of views with the Urban Development Journalists' Forum at the DNCC Nagar Bhaban.
Ejaz said that to ensure the people of Dhaka can return home comfortably during the month of fasting, members of the Scouts and BNCC will work alongside the traffic police.
Additionally, the number of students currently assisting with traffic management will be increased, he added.
"Traffic control is being managed in coordination with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). In this regard, after Ramadan, rickshaws will be banned from major roads in the city. No vehicles will be allowed within 500 meters of metro rail stations. An initiative has already been taken to install automated traffic signals to control congestion."
Additionally, the DNCC administrator mentioned that a model is being developed to involve the community in development projects, including efforts to free sidewalks and water bodies from encroachment.
"Through this, development activities will be carried out with the participation of the local community," he added.
