On the orders of the Prime Minister, a top-level government team has inspected and held discussions with local residents in Dhaka-15, the constituency of main opposition leader and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr Shafiqur Rahman.
The team was led by State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam.
At the beginning of the daylong inspection on Wednesday (July 1), a discussion meeting was held with local residents at Lane No. 3 of West Shewrapara.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman and Dhaka North City Corporation administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton were also present.
Later, the state minister and the concerned representatives visited various areas including Anandabazar Canal, the lane adjacent to East Monipur Baitur Rahim Jame Mosque, Baishteki Sarkar Bari Mor and Ibrahimpur Government Primary School premises.
He spoke to the locals separately at each place and observed the existing problems on the spot.
Locals raised various complaints regarding water shortage, gas problems, drainage system, waterlogging, broken roads, illegal encroachment, traffic jams, drug and juvenile gang problems, and fees of educational institutions.
During the exchange of views, State Minister Mir Shahe Alam said that the government is giving special importance to the development of the opposition leader's constituency. He said that he had come to inspect the area as a team leader on the instructions of the prime minister.

Opposition leader Dr Shafiqur Rahman said that their main goal is to alleviate the suffering of the people. “We are not just working for formalities, but to ensure practical and effective solutions.”
DNCC administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan Milton said that the problems have already been identified and initiatives will be taken to implement them on a priority basis.
