Police have blocked a march by teachers demanding the nationalization of private primary schools as they attempted to proceed towards Shikkha Bhaban on Thursday.
At 2:20pm, the demonstrators were stopped by police at Kadam Foara intersection while marching from the National Press Club towards Shikkha Bhaban.
Unable to advance, the teachers engaged in an argument with the police and continued chanting slogans in support of their demands. Eventually, they staged a sit-in on the road, temporarily disrupting traffic.
After more than 30 minutes, a five-member delegation from the protesters went to the Secretariat, while the rest returned to the National Press Club.
Teachers from private primary schools have been staging a sit-in protest for the past five days in front of the National Press Club, pressing for the nationalization of their institutions.
Additionally, teachers and employees of MPO-listed schools, colleges, madrasas, and technical institutions have been holding a separate sit-in for nine days, demanding nationalization, government-regulated housing allowances, medical benefits, full festival allowances, and a universal transfer system for all staff, including institution heads.
During Thursday’s sit-in, protesters announced their plan to march towards Shikkha Bhaban.
However, around 2:30pm, police stopped them at Shikkha Bhaban intersection, where they continued to chant slogans before returning to the Press Club after 10 minutes.
Later, an eight-member delegation from the protesters reportedly met with officials at the Secretariat to discuss their demands.
