The Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) has directed the Dhaka Boat Club Limited to vacate 10 acres of land in Savar, which it is accused of occupying illegally.

In a letter issued to the club's president on Tuesday, the BWDB warned that failure to comply with the directive would result in legal action for eviction.

The letter noted that the BWDB had originally acquired the land for building a flood control embankment under the Dhaka Integrated Flood Protection Project.

“You, the president of Dhaka Boat Club Limited, have illegally occupied a total of 10.7315 acres of land along the (Turag) riverbank, which was acquired by the BWDB,” the letter said.

It further explained that the BWDB had previously permitted the club to utilize 0.55 acres of land in the same area in response to an application submitted by the club.

“However, in addition to this, you, the president of Dhaka Boat Club Limited, have illegally included the BWDB's 10.7315 acres of land within the boundary wall of your property, which is entirely unlawful, illegal, and constitutes trespassing on government land,” the letter read.

The BWDB demanded that the unauthorized occupation of the 10.7315 acres be vacated within seven days.
