The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) have arrested two individuals with local weapons in the capital's Hazaribagh area.

According to the police, the arrested individuals, Md Imran Hossain, 24, and Md Shipon, 18, are active members of an inter-district robbery gang.

The arrests took place in the early hours of Wednesday around 3:30am, in the Beribadh area of Hazaribagh by the Ramna Division of DB.

On Thursday afternoon, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Public Relations Department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Mohammad Talebur Rahman, provided this information.

He said that on Wednesday night, the DB police received information that a group of robbers armed with local weapons was preparing for a robbery on the Beribadh near the RS Filling Station in the Hazaribagh Police Station area.

Acting on this information, the Dhanmondi Zonal Team of DB's Ramna Division conducted a raid at the location.

During the operation, the suspects attempted to flee upon noticing the police, using both motorcycles and running.

Imran and Shipon were apprehended during this attempt.

A search of Imran's school bag led to the recovery of a machete.

Additionally, a motorcycle was used in the robbery and two mobile phones were seized.

However, other accomplices managed to escape on foot and motorcycles.

A case has been filed at the Hazaribagh Police Station against the two arrested individuals and 10-12 unidentified suspects.

DC Mohammad Talebur Rahman revealed that during preliminary interrogation, the arrestees admitted to being active members of a notorious robbery gang operating in Mohammadpur and an inter-district robbery group.

They used motorcycles to intercept rickshaws, CNGs, and other vehicles in various areas of Dhaka, robbing victims by threatening or injuring them with machetes.

They were also involved in other criminal activities in the Mohammadpur area, including controlling a juvenile gang, drug trafficking, extortion, and snatching.

The police official further said that Imran has two cases of robbery and attempted murder against him at the Keraniganj Model Police Station in Dhaka.

Shipon has four cases against him for robbery, murder, and attempted murder at the Keraniganj Model Police Station and the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in the capital.
