Weapon recovered from bamboo grove near Sust VC's bungalow

Police have recovered a weapon from a bamboo grove near the vice-chancellor's bungalow at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust).

The Jalalabad police confirmed that the weapon belonged to them and was one of several lost during previous student movement, according to Jalalabad police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Harunur Rashid.

Confirming the discovery on Friday, the OC said: “A cleaning worker found a weapon in the bamboo grove behind the garage next to the vice-chancellor’s bungalow this afternoon. Upon receiving the information, we arrived at the scene around 3:30pm and recovered the weapon, identifying it as one of our own."

When asked how the weapon ended up near the vice-chancellor's bungalow, he explained: "Several of our weapons were lost during the anti-government movement. This is one of them. Many weapons are still unaccounted for, and we are actively working to recover them."

University Proctor Md Mokhleshur Rahman also commented on the recovery: "The police have retrieved the weapon, which could have posed a significant safety risk if misused. The police thanked us for our assistance in helping them recover their lost weapon."
