Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Police Commissioner (Logistics, Finance and Procurement) Hasan Md Shawkat Ali said that checking crimes would be much easier if the people remain beside the police.
“People are one of the most supportive forces in controlling crime and maintaining the law and order. Controlling crimes will be much easier if such supportive force stays by our side,” he said.
He made the remarks as the chief guest while exchanging views with the Citizen Forum at a local restaurant in Dhanmondi on Thursday.
The additional police commissioner said that they are going to every police station under DMP to hear the residents of the respective areas to prepare an outline for the effective use of police in maintaining law and order.
“We are talking to respected citizens. We are seeking opinions and suggestions from them so that an outline on how the police will work in the coming days can be drawn up. After the August 5 changeover, the people have stood by the police. We want to work with the people,” he said further.
He said that the Bangladesh police is an organization governed by laws and rules.
“None of us is above accountability. Whether we can do or not, all our activities are within accountability. Our accountability is to you. How much security and service we can provide to you is our accountability. We do not want to be oppressive police, we want to be the people's police. We want to build this country beautifully with you,” he said.
For the Citizen Forum, the Additional Police Commissioner also said: “You should keep an eye on whether there is a backup of the CCTV in your home and institution.”
“So that if any incident happens later, we can take the help of that CCTV,” he added.
The students, the public and the respected citizens under the Dhanmondi police station area were present at the view exchange meeting.
