In protest of an attack and vandalism on their college campuses, students of Kabi Nazrul Government College and Government Shahid Suhrawardy College have announced a "Mega Monday" program.
To implement this program, students began gradually gathering in front of the main gate of Kabi Nazrul Government College in the morning.
They were seen chanting slogans on the college campus premises, demanding justice against colleges involved in Sunday’s attacks, including Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College.
By 10am, students from Suhrawardy College were also observed at their campus’s main gate. At the time, the presence of law enforcement officers was also noted.
Regarding the "Mega Monday" program, Fahad, a student of Kabi Nazrul Government College, said: "Yesterday [Sunday], the students of DMRC launched attacks on our college and Suhrawardy College after announcing a 'Super Sunday.’ In response, we declared our 'Mega Monday' program for today."
Aftab Ahmed, a student of Suhrawardy College, said: "DMRC committed a grave injustice by attacking us. They will have to bear the consequences. We are currently observing our program peacefully. We strongly demand that all those involved in yesterday’s [Sunday] attack on our campus be brought under the law. Otherwise, DMRC will no longer have their place here."
He added: "Depending on the presence and opinion of our students, we may advance in that direction. However, it cannot be confirmed at this moment. Our program will continue throughout the day."
Anik, a student of Kabi Nazrul Government College, said: "We in no way want to cause trouble for the government or the general public. However, we want to give a strong response to the attacks on our brothers and sisters. We will proceed under the guidance of our seniors."
