Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested actress and former president of the E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB), Shomi Kaiser, from a house in Uttara Sector-4 on early Wednesday.
The arrest took place around 12:30am during a raid, according to Rownok Jahan, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The arrest follows a case filed on October 9 by BNP activist Syed Hasan Mahmud against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Shomi Kaiser, folk singer and former MP Momtaz Begum, former minister Tarana Halim, and 13 others.
The case, filed with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Belal Hossain, accuses them of attempting to kill Mahmud in June 2022.
“Actress Shomi Kaiser is an FIR listed accused. She will be shown arrested in the case,” said Rownok Jahan.
Shomi Kaiser, daughter of renowned Bangladeshi writer-novelist Shahidullah Kaiser and writer and former MP Panna Kaiser, was arrested following a tip-off.
The raid was conducted on road no 6 of sector 4 in Uttara, as confirmed by Rawnak Jahan, deputy commissioner of the Uttara Division Police.
As of 3am, police were still conducting the drive in Uttara.
