Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has urged political parties and organizations to hold rallies at Suhrawardy Udyan instead of Shahbagh to reduce public inconvenience.

“Protesters and rally participants can present their demands to government committees and commissions without blocking the streets. This will help minimize public suffering,” the adviser said during a press briefing at the Ministry of Home Affairs following the third meeting of the Law and Order Advisory Council Committee on Tuesday.

He also emphasized the need to investigate the political identity of movement leaders in any protest and cautioned against allowing top criminals, who are free on bail, to engage in further illegal activities.

Jahangir noted that the recovery of illegal weapons was a key topic during the meeting, with a significant amount already confiscated.

Commenting on the dismissal of 252 sub-inspectors (SIs) out of 823 trained at Sarda Police Academy in Rajshahi for indiscipline, the adviser clarified: “There is no political reason behind the dismissal of these SIs. In fact, even larger numbers have been dismissed in the past.”

The meeting also addressed measures to improve law and order in the country, security preparations for the upcoming World Ijtema, and efforts to combat terrorism and militancy.

Law enforcement agencies were directed to step up their operations, particularly regarding the arrest of criminals and the recovery of illegal weapons.
