A group of students who failed their HSC examinations surrounded the Dhaka Education Board on Sunday, demanding a reevaluation of the recently published HSC results, during which several students reported being attacked and four were later taken to Dhaka Medical College for treatment.
The protest, which began around midday, escalated when hundreds of students blocked the main entrance of the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board in Bakshi Bazar.
At approximately 1:45pm, the protesting students forcibly broke open the locks on the main gate, gaining entry to the premises.
They have been demanding a comprehensive “subject mapping” of all subjects, claiming that the results are discriminatory.
Earlier in the day, students under the banner of HSC Batch 2024 marched from the Central Shaheed Minar to the Dhaka Education Board, eventually forcing their way inside.
Agitated protesters said: “We were attacked inside the board. Several of our classmates were injured. We demand justice for this attack.”
In response to the situation, police and military personnel have been deployed, and efforts are ongoing to resolve the issue through dialogue.
Professor Tapan Kumar Sarker, chairman of the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, addressed the media, saying: “The results were published in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Education.”
He added that no orders were given to attack the students and denied any involvement of board officials in the incident.
