Severe traffic congestion has been reported on the road from Mohakhali to Uttara in Dhaka, causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Gulshan Traffic Division has explained the reason behind the heavy congestion on Airport Road, despite it being a weekend.
In a post shared on the Facebook page of DMP's Gulshan Traffic Division on Friday afternoon, the reason for the traffic jam was disclosed.
The post stated that a large 18-wheeler heavy-loaded lorry lost control and met with an accident at the outgoing lane near Nikunja Pump, in front of the Joar Sahara BRTC Bus Depot.
Attempts to tow the lorry using a wrecker were unsuccessful. A crane was later arranged to remove the lorry from the road, but despite numerous efforts, the crane could not move it.
The post further mentioned that alternative measures are being taken to remove the lorry.
For the time being, one lane of the road remains closed, while traffic flow continues normally on the remaining lanes.
