Eleven employees, including the manager of Star Kabab’s Banani branch, have been arrested following the assault of a customer, police said on Monday.
The incident occurred after the customer, a journalist named Saleh Mohammad Rashid Alok, protested being served “rotten and foul-smelling tikka” along with kacchi biryani on Sunday.
The arrests were made later that day, Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge Russell Sarwar confirmed.
He said a case was filed regarding the assault.
A few others, around four to five unknown individuals, are also mentioned in the case, he added.
“If further investigations reveal more involvement, they will all be brought to justice,” the officer said.
The OC further mentioned that all the arrested individuals were sent to court on Monday. Efforts are being made to arrest other individuals involved in the incident, he said.
The victim, Saleh Mohammad Rashid Alok, said that on Sunday afternoon, he and a friend went to dine at Star Kabab in Banani. During the meal, they were served “foul-smelling” tikka along with their kacchi biryani.
Alok brought this to the attention of the restaurant management. When his friend complained about the bad odour in the food, the manager allegedly replied: "You have never eaten tikka in your life, this is how it is supposed to be."
As Alok protested further, three other customers raised similar complaints. This reportedly enraged the manager, who summoned the restaurant staff. At that moment, 14 to 15 employees of Star Kabab attacked Alok, leaving him with a head injury.
Alok, whose head was bloodied from the assault, said he is seeking justice for the incident.
