Commuters frustrated as metro rail services suspended on Agargaon-Motijheel section

Trains are still running between Uttara North and Agargaon

Update : 18 Sep 2024, 02:16 PM

Metro rail operations on the Agargaon-Motijheel section were suspended due to a mechanical fault on Wednesday morning, causing an inconvenience for commuters.

However, trains are still running between Uttara North and Agargaon.

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) confirmed the disruption in a post on their official Facebook page.

The company apologized for the temporary inconvenience and assured passengers that they would be informed once the issue is resolved and service resumes on the Agargaon-Motijheel route.

A passenger, Jihad M Rahman, commented on the post, stating that he punched his card at Shahbagh station at 9:10am, with the next train expected in 25 minutes. However, by 9:28am, the train had still not arrived.

Another passenger, Md Asadul Haque, mentioned that the problem occurred around 9am, but passengers were not informed despite several announcements.

Siam Haque, who was on his way to his office, expressed his frustration saying he tried to hail a car through a ride-sharing app, but the fare was about Tk900 as it was during rush hour. "We were suddenly told that our train was malfunctioning and had to get off at Agargaon. How is this fair?"

When asked for a statement, no DMTCL officials were available to comment.

However, DMTCL’s Director of Operation and Maintenance, Nasir Uddin Ahmed, acknowledged the problem with the metro rail line on that route and indicated that repairs would take some time.

Currently, metro rail is operating only up to Agargaon from Uttara North.
