Lawyers and members of the public hurled eggs at a police van that was part of a convoy carrying former adviser on private industry affairs to ex-prime minister Salman F Rahman and former law minister Anisul Huq outside the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka.

The incident occurred around 6:15pm on Wednesday as the vehicles entered the court premises ahead of a scheduled hearing.

The crowd was seen chanting "Fake, Fake (Bhua Bhua)" as they threw eggs at the van.

According to Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mainul Hasan, the two had attempted to flee using the waterway but were intercepted by coast guards in the Pagla area of Narayanganj and handed over to the police, as confirmed by the Bangladesh Coast Guard's media wing.

Salman and Anisul Huq were arrested on charges of allegedly instigating the murder of Shahjahan Ali, a 24-year-old shop employee, on July 16, according to court sources.

Earlier, the police sought 10-day remands for both Salman and Anisul Huq in connection with the case.

The two were apprehended in Dhaka's Sadarghat area on Tuesday, following a case filed at New Market Police Station regarding the killing of Shahjahan Ali.
