Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) chief Harunor Rashid announced on Tuesday that no decision has been made regarding the release of the six coordinators from the quota reform movement currently in custody.

"Although there have been various appeals for their release, no decision has been reached yet," he said to media regarding the detention of quota movement coordinators at his office on Tuesday.

He emphasized that the six coordinators of the Anti-Discriminatory Student Movement are being held for security reasons.

On Monday, the DB chief indicated that the six coordinators—Nahid Islam, Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah, Abu Baker Majumdar, Asif Mahmud, and Nusrat Tabassum—would soon be released and returned to their families.

The coordinators were detained by the DB on Saturday under the pretext of security concerns.

On Sunday, while in DB custody, the six coordinators announced the cancellation of all protest activities associated with the quota movement.

This decision was met with backlash from protesting students, who claimed the coordinators had been coerced into making the statement.

However, DB chief Harunor Rashid dismissed these claims as mere rumors.
