Protesters advocating for quota reform in public service will hold an absentee funeral prayer (gayebana janaza) and a coffin procession on Wednesday afternoon at the Raju Memorial Sculpture area of Dhaka University in memory of those who have died in clashes and attacks during demonstrations across Bangladesh.

Asif Mahmud, a key coordinator of a portion of Students Against Discrimination movement, announced the event on his Facebook profile at around 1am.

“In honour of our brothers martyred in today's (Tuesday) joint attack and shooting by police and Chhatra League, a coffin procession and gayebana janaza will be held tomorrow, July 17, at 2pm at the base of the Raju Sculpture.”

He also urged everyone in all educational institutions and districts to simultaneously hold similar programs.

Meanwhile, Nahid Islam, coordinator of another group of quota protesters, announced on Tuesday night that they would not hold any program on Wednesday due to Ashura.

At least six people were killed in Dhaka, Chittagong and Rangpur, while several hundred sustained injuries on Tuesday as the police and Chhatra League members confronted the quota reform protesters for a second day.
