Police have cordoned off an open field beside a mosque in Sadhapur, Savar, Dhaka, after locals spotted a pressure cooker wrapped in black tape and alerted authorities.
In-charge of Bhabanipur Police Outpost and Savar Model Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Imran Hossain said police went to the scene around 8am after receiving a call on the emergency service number and found the pressure cooker wrapped in black tape.
Police suspect it could be a bomb, so the bomb disposal unit has been notified, he said.
“The entire field has been cordoned off,” Imran Hossain said.
Asked who left the object there, the SI said locals found a blue plastic drum containing clothes, a copy of the Quran and the tape-wrapped pressure cooker at Laltek Ghora Mosque field in Sadhapur Goper Bari during the early hours of the morning.
The locals later took the pressure cooker out of the drum and placed it in the mosque field, he said.
Citing locals, Imran Hossain added that three unidentified people allegedly left the plastic drum at the mosque field during the night and fled.
