DMP issues traffic advisory for Pohela Boishakh

  • Some important roads will remain closed
  • Police suggest city dwellers use alternate routes

As part of its extensive security measures to ensure safety during Pohela Boishakh celebrations on Sunday, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the festival.

This advisory was issued in a press release by the Traffic Ramana Department on Saturday.

The main celebrations are scheduled to be held at the capital’s Ramna Park, where Chhayanaut will perform traditional songs at the Ramna Batamul as part of a tradition. 

The police will cordon off roads around the Dhaka University campus and the park from 5am to 4pm.

Possible diversion points are:

  2. Minto Road Crossing
  3. Officers Club Crossing
  4. kakrail Church Crossing
  5. Kadamfoara Crossing
  6. UBL Crossing
  7. Doyel Chattar Crossing
  8. Dhaka University Medical Center Crossing
  9. Jagannath Hall Crossing
  10. Sculpture Crossing
  11. Nilkhet Crossing
  12. Kantaban Crossing

Alternative roads for vehicular movement

The DMP has asked city dwellers to use alternate routes during this time to avoid traffic problems.

The routes are — Mirpur Road-Science Lab-New Market-Azimpur-Bakshibazar-Chankharpul-Gulistan; Russel Square-Sonargaon-Rainbow-Moghbazar-Malibagh-Rajmoni-UBL-Gulistan; Mohakhali-Shatrasta-Moghbazar-Kakrail-Rajmoni-UBL-Gulistan; Farmgate-Sonargaon-Banglamotor-Mouchak-Malibagh-Khilgaon; Farmgate-Sonargaon-Banglamotor-Moghbazar-Kakrail Church-Rajmoni- Nightingale-Polton-Motijheel; Katabon-Hatirpool-Banglamotor-Sonargaon-Farmgate; Katabon-Hatirpool-Banglamotor-Moghbazar-Kakrail-Rajmoni Crossing-Gulistan-Motijheel.
