Six members of a family, including women and children, sustained burn injuriesin a gas cylinder explosion in Bhashantek area in Dhaka on Friday.
The injured were identified as Meherunnessa, 80, Md Liton, 52, Surjo Banu, 30, Sujon, 8, Lamia, 7, and Liza, 18.
They were rescued early on Friday and admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
Resident Doctor of the Burn Institute Tariqul Islam confirmed the matter.
Dr Tariqul Islam said: "All six people who were burnt are being treated in the emergency department. All of them are in critical condition.”
Md Liton suffered 67% burns, his mother Meherunnessa 47%, wife Surjo Banu 82%, child Sujan 43%, Lamia 55% and Liza 30%, he added.
Bhashantek police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Borhan Uddin said: "The accident took place in the shanty town of Shyamalbangla residential area in Bhashantek. Because the room was accumulating gas as the cylinder leaked, an exposition took place on Friday morning due to the lighting of a mosquito coil."
