A group of Dhaka University students formed a human chain, demanding exemplary punishment for the students allegedly involved in the gang rape of a woman on the Jahangirnagar University campus.

The human chain was organized at the Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture on the Dhaka University premises on Sunday.

The students highlighted the challenges faced by rape victims in obtaining justice in Bangladesh and emphasized the need for a more efficient and swift judicial process to discourage perpetrators.

Aditi Islam, a student of Dhaka University, said: "The incident at Jahangirnagar University reflects the systemic reluctance towards ensuring justice for rape victims in our country."

Mosaddek Ali, a student of the Bengal department, said: "I witnessed a reflection of the torture inflicted on our mothers and sisters by the Pakistani invaders in 1971 at Jahangirnagar University yesterday (Saturday). It is a university in an independent country. Those responsible for this incident should be identified and presented before the nation."

The Dhaka University students also expressed solidarity with the ongoing protests at Jahangirnagar University, where students are demanding punishment for the accused rapists.

Soon after the rape allegations surfaced on Saturday night, students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) led several protests and formed human chains after a woman was raped inside the campus by a university-unit Chhara League leader and an outsider.

Several teachers of the university also took part in the protests demanding punishment of the accused on Sunday.
