A group of miscreants set a bus on fire at Postogola of Jurain area in the capital on Sunday during the blockade called by the BNP and like-minded parties.

The miscreants set fire to the bus of Raida Paribahan around 2:40pm near Salauddin Pump, said Talha Bin Jashim, station officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence's media cell.

Two firefighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze at 2:53 pm.

Three more buses in the capital were set on fire by miscreants on Saturday night.

This is the 12th such blockade called by the opposition parties since October 31, and the first since the announcement of BNP’s non-cooperation movement against the government on December 20.

The blockade began at 6am and will end at 6pm on Sunday. The presence of public transport and commuters on Dhaka streets seemed normal, despite tension and fear of arson attacks.
