A Nilachal Paribahan bus was set ablaze while parked by the roadside in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, early Monday.
The incident occurred around 2am on a new road beside the SO Eidgah ground in Ward 6 of Narayanganj City Corporation. No casualties were reported.
According to locals, the bus, which operates on the Chittagong Road-Paturia route, was parked by the roadside when miscreants allegedly set it on fire between 1:35am and 2am.
Two units from Adamjee Fire Station responded to the incident and brought the blaze under control. The bus was severely damaged, with its seats and other parts gutted by the fire.
Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy director of Narayanganj Fire Service, said the bus was extensively damaged, but no one was injured.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Confirming the incident, Tarek Al Mehedi, additional superintendent of police (Crime) of Narayanganj district, said: “We are reviewing CCTV footage to identify those involved in the incident. Legal action regarding the matter is currently underway.”
