The students of seven Dhaka University-affiliated colleges blocked the capital’s Nilkhet intersection on Tuesday to press home their demand to relax CGPA requirements and allow them to sit for the final examination next year.

Students blocked the Nilkhet intersection from 1:45pm, leading to significant traffic congestion in the area.

Police were seen talking to the agitated students, but they refused to leave the road.

The students said they would continue the agitation till their demands were met.

Osman Goni, a student, said: "The authorities have to relax the CGPA requirements and give us the opportunity to sit for the final examination next year.  To ensure a favourable outcome, we have decided to continue our protest at Nilkhet."

He also said: "We have met the Eden Mohila College Principal Professor Supriya Bhattacharjee, also the coordinator of the DU-affiliated seven colleges, to present our demands. Despite her assurance 19 times, no definitive decisions have been made. We have also had multiple discussions with Dhaka University's administration. They claim to be coordinating, but we are yet to find a solution."

Asked about the sufferings of the common people due to the blockade, he said: "We are also conscious citizens of the country. I do not want to cause trouble either. We were forced to take to the streets as our demands were not met.”

He added that it took nine months to publish their last examination’s results. “Hence, we did not get enough time to prepare for the next exam. Who is to blame here?”
