DMP issues traffic advisory for National Mourning Day

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued traffic guidelines for Dhaka ahead of National Mourning Day to be observed across Bangladesh on Tuesday.

This information was disclosed in a press release signed by DMP Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq on Sunday.

These instructions have been issued for traffic on the roads surrounding Dhanmondi 32 (Bangabandhu Memorial Museum) in the capital.

The notification said that on the occasion of National Mourning Day on August 15, the president, prime minister, Cabinet members and various levels of people will go to Bangabandhu Memorial Museum to pay their respects to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

General public including numerous leaders and activists will go there from Dhaka metropolis and surrounding areas in various transports and on foot to pay their tributes.

In order to facilitate the smooth movement of vehicles carrying people who have come to pay their respects and avoid traffic jams, the following routes are requested from the dawn of August 15 till the end of the day of mourning:

  1. Passenger vehicles from Mirpur, Gabtoli towards Russell Square-Ajimpur will take a right turn via Manik Mia Avenue-Dhanmondi-27 road and reach their destination via Shankar-Jigatla-Science Lab (Satmasjid Road).
  2. Passenger vehicles coming from New Market and Science Lab towards Russell Square will take a left turn via Dhanmondi-II Road and reach their destination via Jigatla-Shankar (Satmasjid Road).
  3. Passenger buses coming from Rainbow FDC towards Russell Square will take a left turn at Sonargaon crossing and reach their destination via Banglamotor via Shahbagh.
