Police are working to ease the situation

Update : 18 Jul 2023, 03:52 PM

The one-point movement carried out by the opposition BNP has led to a two-kilometre traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway.

Apart from that, several areas in Savar and Dhamrai have witnessed massive tailbacks.

BNP started its march with a rally at the Islampur bus stand area in Dhamrai at around 10:30am on Tuesday. During this time, thousands of their leaders and activists took positions in one lane of the road, and marched towards Nabinagar.

Dhaka District North Traffic Inspector (Administration) Hossain Shahid Chowdhury said that due to BNP's march to Gablati, traffic congestion has been created up to the Aminbazar area on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway.

Shariful Islam Rifat, a student, was going to Savar from Dhamrai for personal work. However, he could not cross the Islampur area in an hour due to the heavy traffic.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Savar Highway police station Azizul Haque told Dhaka Tribune that the BNP's march started from Dhamrai and has caused traffic congestion on the road.

“Once the program is completed, traffic problems will be resolved. We are working to ease the situation,” he said.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said that the party's march procession is not just any ordinary road march, rather it is a victory march.

"This is our march to claim our rights; the only demand is the immediate ousting of the government," said the BNP leader during the pre-march rally at Gabtoli Mazar Road area of the capital on Tuesday at 10:30 am.

The BNP leader further expressed that the people of the country no longer want to see this government in power or any election conducted under its administration.
