Dhaka city commuters suffered heavy traffic congestion on Saturday due to rain and various gatherings and rallies across the capital.

On Saturday at 3pm, the job aspirants blocked the Shahbag intersection demanding that the age limit for applying for government jobs be increased to 35.

Before that, Jamaat-e-Islami's rally started at 2pm in Dhaka's Ramna Engineers Institution Auditorium.

Due to the gathering of the party, traffic movement was limited on the road in front of Shahbagh and Matsya Bhaban. As a result, heavy traffic has been created on both sides of the road.

Meanwhile, due to this, severe traffic jams were created on various roads, including Kawran Bazar, Farmgate, Kantaban, Airport Road, Banani, Jatrabari, Gulistan, and Paltan areas in Dhaka.

DMP Tejgaon Traffic DC Shahed Al Masud said: "Today, being a Saturday and a holiday, it was expected to be a traffic-free day, but unfortunately, that was not the case. The roads are experiencing significant congestion. On one hand, there were public gatherings. Consequently, the overall movement of people has significantly increased. There is heavy traffic from Farmgate towards Shahbagh. Additionally, there is a traffic jam around Bijay Sarani as well."
