Panic has gripped among the city dwellers as the smell of gas has spread on the streets in different areas in the capital.
The smell was detected in some areas including Eskaton, Green Road, Mohakhali, Azimpur, Dhanmondi, Malibagh, Rampura and Badda in the Dhaka.
Out of fear, many residents have left their residences for the streets to avoid casualties from a potential disaster.
Announcement has been made from mosques in different areas not to light gas stoves, reports Prothom Alo.
Many posted on social media, panicking as the smell of gas spread.
Many complained that they did not get a connection by calling Titas emergency contact number.
The news of the gas leak first came from Rampura.
Then, the local residents called the National Emergency Service number 999 and reported the matter.
Later, a team of police went to the spot.
According to the police, the smell of gas can be found on the roads of Rampura's Mollabari, Rampura Bazar and Taltola areas.
Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Rampura police station said that police smelled gas when they went to the scene. They have reported this to Titas. A team from Titas will come and check and will take necessary measures.
Meanwhile, Titas Gas has advised the city residents not to be panicked about the spread of the smell of gas, as the gas supply to industrial factories is stopped during Eid, the smell is coming out due to the increase in gas pressure in the transmission and distribution lines (overflow).
Titas emergency and technical teams are working on the matter.
Arif Hossain, supervisor of Titas Gulshan team said that this problem has arisen due to excess gas pressure.
“We have reduced the pressure. The problem will be solved gradually,” he added.
