Nearly 1.08 million people have so far used the Dhaka metro rail, from Uttara to Agargaon, earning its authorities about Tk6.2 crore in revenue.

Meanwhile, in the three months since its inauguration, they had to spend Tk7.33 crore on the service, including its electricity bills, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd Managing Director MAN Siddique told the media on Thursday.

He said the figures were not exact as the metro rail was not fully operational yet, adding that the approximate estimate had only been provided at the request of journalists.

Two new stations – Uttara South and Shewrapara – would be open to the public starting Friday, the DMTCL chief added.

Stating that the work of the second phase of the metro rail would be completed within the stipulated time, he said performance tests of the metro rail's Agargaon-Motijheel section would start in July with the target of starting operations from Uttara to Motijheel by December.
