Police have detained one person for allegedly beating a youth to death over suspicion of stealing in front of Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute in the capital on Sunday.
The deceased is Mamun, 35, said Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Al Mamun.
He said that the body of the deceased has been kept in the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
The SI said: “Mamun came to a medical centre with his mother and wife Sunday morning. Later, when he was roaming in front of Shishu Hospital, some unidentified people assaulted him on the suspicion of being a thief, leaving him dead on the spot.”
“We are trying to arrest the killers by watching the CCTV footage. The exact cause of death will be known after receiving the post-mortem report. I have come to know that the young man used to sell tea in Mirpur area,” he added.
DMP Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station Inspector (Operation) Md Shahjahan said: “The case is under process. The deceased's brother Masud Rana is coming to the police station.”
