A truck helper was killed and a worker was injured a gas cylinder of the vehicle blasted at a filling station in Mughda area of the capital on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Md Saddam.
The incident took place at Best Eastern Filling Station around 5am, said Mohammad Jamal Uddin Mir, officer-in-charge of Mugda Police Station, confirming the matter.
Sub-Inspector Mubaidul Islam said Saddam was standing nearby when the truck's gas cylinder was being refilled at the station.
At one stage, the gas cylinder exploded with a big bang, leaving Saddam dead on the spot and another truck worker injured, the SI said.
The explosion took place either as gas pressure in the cylinder was too high or the date of the cylinder expired, police primarily assumed.
Police are investigating it to know the actual reason behind the blast, said the SI.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
