An air conditioner's (AC) wires at the dialysis centre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) caught on fire on Sunday.
The incident, which took place at around 3pm, caused panic among the patients at the hospital.
Three firefighting units from Siddique Bazar Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot after being informed of the matter.
However, the hospital authorities managed to bring the situation under control before the fire service reached the spot.
Senior Staff Nurse Yasmin Khanom told Dhaka Tribune that they had moved the patients from the dialysis centre when they noticed smoke coming from the AC.
DMCH Director Brigadier General Nazmul Haque said that they had moved the patients who were undergoing dialysis at that time.
“After finishing the dialysis for all the patients, we'll assess for any damage and promptly repair it,” he added.
