As many as 3,756 single-trip tickets for Dhaka Metro Rail were sold on Thursday, with the trains being opened to the public in the morning on a limited scale.
Each single-trip passenger paid Tk60, while the metro rail authorities also sold 99 passes worth Tk500.
Excitement among Dhaka residents was sky-high surrounding the metro rail, and many queued up in the morning braving the biting cold to ride the trains on the first day of operation.
The managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), which implemented the project, said he was happy with how everything had turned out.
The DMTCL authorities and employees were just as excited as the public, MAN Siddique said.
