Dhaka is returning to normalcy after residents who left the capital to celebrate Durga Puja, Eid-e-Miladunnabi, and the following weekend have started to return.

Most Hindus, who went to their hometowns to celebrate Durga Puja, are also returning home.

Sunday being the last day of the five-day holiday, roads, airports, bus stations, and lunch terminals were reportedly crowded.

According to this year's public holiday list, this Wednesday was a general holiday for Durga Puja. The offices will open the following day on Thursday, but Friday and Saturday are weekends. The next day (Sunday) is Eid-e-Miladunnabi.

Both government and private offices are set to resume work from Monday.

Rajan Chandra Debnath, a government employee, who went to Jamalpur to share the joy of puja with his family said: “Today (Sunday) was the last day of my holiday. It would have been nice to stay a few more days at Jamalpur.”

According to him, there are a lot of passengers headed for Dhaka at the train stations. “But the ride was comfortable.”

A bus passenger, Ariful Islam, said: “We usually don’t get five-day holidays. Hence, this time I went to the Sundarbans with my family.”

He also mentioned that the journey was made easy due to the Padma Bridge.
