DNCC mayor bats for ‘odd-even’ car rationing

The mayor said effective traffic measures should be taken after conducting research on city roads, says Atiqul

If the traffic management responsibility is rested upon the mayors, then the Dhaka North City Corporation will introduce ‘odd-even’ car rationing system to curb traffic jam, mayor Atiqul Islam said on Saturday.

He said that vehicles with odd numbers would come out on the streets on an odd date and the ones with even numbers will come out the following day, which will cut the number of vehicles plying the city roads in to half.

The DNCC mayor said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of “Bangabandhu Muktamancha” in Uttara, Dhaka, reports Bangla Tribune.

The mayor said effective traffic measures should be taken after conducting research on the roads in the capital to prevent heavy traffic.

The DNCC has built the Muktamancha (open stage) realizing the need for a free platform in ensuring a healthy and livable environment for children in the area, he added.

Meher Afroz Chumki, Gazipur-5 member of parliament, was also present on the occasion as a special guest.
