The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has started taking various initiatives ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, including collecting information and mobile numbers of security guards of all buildings.
Apart from that, to keep empty houses safe from theft and robbery during the Eid vacations, DMP will patrol all roads and alleys throughout Dhaka. The law enforcement agency has also intensified its intelligence surveillance efforts in advance.
According to the Operations Division of DMP, a total of 50 police stations have been instructed to collect the information and mobile numbers of the security guards. Caretakers or security guards of the houses have been asked to call the police if they see any kind of anomaly.
Senior officials of DMP said that last Eid-ul-Fitr over 10 million residents of the capital went to their hometowns to celebrate the holy festival. During that time, every member of the DMP was engaged in providing security in almost empty Dhaka city.
The DMP officials added that the collective effort of all members had significantly minimized the occurrence of theft, robbery, and other criminal activities in Dhaka.
They further said every police station has been instructed not to let untoward incidents occur around sacrificial animal slaughters.
Additionally, traffic police have been directed to regulate the reckless movement of vehicles on the empty streets of Dhaka. Meanwhile, plainclothes officers will be deployed to ensure the prevention of harassment or eve-teasing incidents, the officials said.
Apart from all the steps, police officers are also inquiring about the current location of the criminals, to identify who is in jail, and who is not.
Another official of the DMP instructed all to avoid meeting strangers from social media alone during the Eid holidays.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandaker Golam Faruq urged those who will go outside Dhaka to celebrate Eid in villages during the holidays to leave their valuables in a safe place or take it with them.
He said this while talking to reporters after a coordination meeting with various organizations centred on Eid at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) headquarters on Thursday.
The commissioner also said that three levels of security have been put in place to ensure the safety of Dhaka during Eid. Every member of the law and order force has been instructed to be alert.
