The allegation of assaults of a college teacher by a police constable for wearing a teep has been initially found to be true, said police on Saturday.
"The probe panel looking into the matter has submitted a report. It confirms that the incident did take place," Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam told Bangla Tribune.
Nazmul Tarek addressed the teacher in a loud and disrespectful manner, which implies that he said something offensive, the DMP chief added.
“However, he refused to confess to the probe committee and has been denying the allegations made against him,” he added.
Departmental action will be taken against Tarek, and he will be withdrawn from his duties, Md Shafiqul Islam said.
A theatre and media studies lecturer at Dhaka’s Tejgaon College, Dr Lata Samaddar on April 2 filed a complaint at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station alleging that a policeman had grilled her about the teep on her forehead, before hurling abuses, threatening to kill her and trying to run over her with his motorcycle.
Later, the police identified Nazmul as a constable of the DMP's Protection Division and suspended him after taking him into custody.
