NBL, Ucep sign MoU to train Santals for jobs

National Bank Limited and Ucep-Bangladesh inked a Memorandum of Understanding under the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme on Wednesday to provide industrial sewing operation training to Santal people in Rajshahi. The one-year training programme will be implemented from July 2017 to June 2018 aiming to create employment and uplift the living standards of the under-privileged community, said a press release. Choudhury Moshtaq Ahmed, managing director (current charge) of the NBL, and Md Habibur Rahman, acting chief executive officer of Ucep-Bangladesh, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations. NBL AMDs Wasif Ali Khan, MA Wadud, DMDs Abdus Sobhan Khan, Shah Syed Abdul Bari and Md Farid Uddin Ahmed, among others, were also present. NBL initiated the training-based employment programme jointly with Ucep-Bangladesh, a leading NGO of the country, for the distressed indigenous people. Under the project, a total of 80 Santal youths per year have been provided with jobs since 2015 in industrial sector after successful completion of training.
